What Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers Do

Heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers—often referred to as HVAC/R technicians—work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the air quality in many types of buildings.

Employment of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers is expected to grow 34 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Rising demand for trained technicians will result in excellent employment opportunities.

Fire Prevention Week

About Fire Prevention Week

Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9 falls.

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres. The fire began on October 8, but continued into and did most of its damage on October 9, 1871.

Heating

  • The leading factor contributing to heating equipment fires was failure to clean, principally creosote from solid fueled heating equipment, primarily chimneys.
  • Portable or fixed space heaters, including wood stoves, were involved in one-third (32%) of home heating fires and four out of five (80%) home heating deaths.
  • Half of home heating fire deaths resulted from fires caused by heating equipment too close to things that can burn, such as upholstered furniture, clothing, mattresses or bedding.
  • In most years, heating is the second leading cause of home fires, fire deaths, and fire injuries. Fixed or portable space heaters are involved in about 4 out of 5 heating fire deaths.

Try the Sil-Fos Brazing Rings....You'll love them!

Here is what can happen.... if you don't use the rings....

Bad_Braze_photo2.jpg

We recently presented the Lucas-Milhaupt brazing rings at a Community College brazing course and they were a HUGE hit! The students found them a lot easier to use. Faster, easier & nice looking joints. They are so much faster you don’t have to worry about heating up the copper too long. Check out the photo above - this is what happens when you heat copper too long. There is a hole in the elbow about the size of a dime. It’s pretty safe to guess this joint wont be holding properly!

The 5 biggest threats to the housing recovery

(MoneyWatch) It is increasingly clear that the ongoing housing recovery is the real deal. But that doesn't mean that homeowners, and the rest of the U.S. economy, is in the clear.

Despite large gains in home prices, foreclosures drying up and millions of homeowners recovering the equity they'd lost during the subprime crash, a few lingering risks are worth keeping an eye one. And the question with some of these threats isn't if, but when, they will actually occur, and what the reaction will be.

Here's a look at the top five threats CLICK HERE FOR THE STORY

The InnovairFlex D4240 - 4-wire photoelectric duct smoke detector
    Screen Shot 2013-03-20 at 9.12.33 PM.png
Features a pivoting housing that fits both square and rectangular footprints and mounts to round or rectangular ductwork.

This unit senses smoke in the most challenging conditions, operating in airflow speeds of 100 to 4,000 feet per minute, temperatures of –4°F to 158°F, and a humidity range of 0 to 95 percent (non-condensing). A plug-in sensor head offers improved false alarm immunity and simple installation, testing, and maintenance. An improved cover design isolates the sensor head from the low-flow feature for simple maintenance.
